Sometimes, a girl just needs some sweets.

Sometimes, a girl just has to have a treat. I mean, life wouldn't be RIGHT without a sweet treat sometimes. Life wouldn't be LIVING if we never treated ourselves!

Yes, as you might be able to tell, I have a sweet tooth. A MAJOR sweet tooth. Sadly enough, I think about sweets quite often! Luckily, my shakes ward off the sweet tooth crazy well, but there are just THOSE days. You know what I'm talking about. Those days where you just CAN'T handle it anymore and you cave. 

And you know what? Life is about balance. So sometimes, its perfect eating and kick butt workouts, and sometimes its pizza and cupcakes and being a sloth. Am I right? 

Then there are those days where you think you really can make it if you can just make a healthy treat work! And luckily, there are TONS of healthy, totally satisfying treats out there that do the trick. They nip that sweet tooth in the bud and don't take you careening off course from your health and fitness goals.

I love that there are so many 21 Day Fix approved sweet treats that are absolutely on track and absolutely delicious. Check out some of my favorites.

To trust or not to trust.....

I am the perfect example of what it looks like to trust the process and to NOT trust the process. When it comes to reaching our personal health and fitness goals, how many of us have tried to guess our way through it and make up our own rules? I know I'm 100% guilty of this --- especially the making up my own rules part of it. Why is it so hard to just trust and believe in a process sometimes? Especially strange since in this particular scenerio, the process is already PROVEN to work -- if followed correctly, the results will come. This means that there is ZERO need to make up our own rules and guess our way through it. Yet this is still what I was doing for the longest time! 

I guess for me, the whole process trusting and surrendering is much easier said than done. It requires patience in just taking time to reach our goals, and it requires to just LET GO, which is definitely hard for me to do. You know how we have been taught that if we want something badly enough, we must work long and hard to make it happen? Well, I guess that is where I struggle with just letting go and trusting and believing -- its challenging and I feel like I have to really work at just letting go. The great part is, once we just SEE that vision, go after it with intention, add in the hard work that is necessary (not more and not less, in this case), trust, believe, and just surrender to the process, then the results come! Imagine that! :)  And of course, its going to take patience, and while we wait in patience, thats where the magic begins to happen. 

So, in picture 1, I was struggling to trust in the process. I was making up my own rules, even though I knew better, but I was having a hard time just letting go. In image 2, I caught the vision, committed to following a PROVEN plan, and did the simplest thing --- I followed, step by step, a system of fitness and nutrition that was laid out for me exactly as it needed to be done to get results. And while I patiently waited, the magic DID happen. Not only did I get better results that I had ever gotten by trying it my own way, I also felt almost FREED. I was working out WAY less than I previously had been (this is from doing only 30 minutes of intentional workouts each day), I had way more time in my day because of shorter workouts, I was getting more accomplished, I UNDERSTOOD my nutrition (finally), and was no longer guessing my way through how and what to do to get results (that I had never found doing it my own way).

So, what I'm trying to say is, I KNOW. I know how hard it is to let go of doing it our own way. Even when we see right in front of our eyes what works, sometimes its hard to just let go of that control. But, this totally is an answer -- a life changing answer. A simple answer. 

And guess what? You don't have to do it alone. I've been there, done that, and now I'm here to walk right alongside you in this journey with support the whole way through!

Memorial Day weekend is upon us. Besides remembering to give and live the gratitude I feel for all of those who have paid the ultimate price for us, its also about celebrating it. 

I don't know about you, but when I think Memorial Day, I think cookout. When I think cookout, I think overeating. When I think overeating, I think about all of the not so healthy foods I'd like to stuff in my face. ;) But, ultimately, that makes me feel rotten, and I know better, from experience, that over indulging in the foods I think I want leads to me actually feeling kind of lousy. I mean, my stomach ends up hurting!!!! And then I wonder why I used to eat that way at all. 

So I have learned the hard way that cookouts with family and parties with friends don't have to mean an automatic stomachache. There are a ton of cookout friendly, healthy foods that are absolutely delicious, will keep me on track, and I won't wind up with a stomach ache. 

You're in for a treat because this recipe is one of my all-time, go-to favorite cookout dishes. I mean, you can't go wrong when fresh roasted corn is in the mix. And you really can't go wrong when avocado is thrown in there, too. Its simple and delicious, good for you, won't throw you off track, and will leave your stomach thanking you.

Wow, what a week! If you've been following me on Facebook, you might have seen that I was blindsided this past week. I was totally caught off guard, hurt, and feeling a bit defeated. As a person who hates conflict and drama and tries to just step away and avoid it, it really affected me. It made my heart hurt and I was left feeling confused and out of sorts. Well, however much it hurt and made my heart ache, life moves on, time heals, and things have to progress forward, no matter how you're feeling. There is no way I was going to let this keep me down. Yes, the blow did shake me and knock me down, but I proved to myself that my strength within is stronger and that I can get back up, learn, and move forward, stronger than before. 

I try to turn these kind of events into opportunities -- opportunities to learn and grow. Well, I have learned several things, one of them being that every little thing is gonna be alright.

Waking up that next day, I felt pretty amazed at what a difference a day can make, and how after sleeping on an issue you can wake up with more clarity and separate the emotion from it all a bit better.

And of course, time heals, so after some time to heal and process, as the week wore on, I started feeling like the old me a little bit more. 

Yes, it still hurts my heart, but I know it's going to be okay and that things are as they should be. 

I also learned how so very thankful I am for an amazing support system in my life - women who make it a point to lift one another up rather than tear one another down. Friends who clear time in their busy schedules to talk and just listen. Family who sends just the right kind of message at the right time.

Sometimes the bad happens to remind us of the good in our lives and to make us remember how thankful we are for our blessings.

6 Things About Motherhood

First of all, Happy Mother's Day to all of you amazing mommas!!! Its a tough, crazy, never dull, exhausting, and rewarding job, isn't it???

At church this morning, my pastor started off with 6 things about motherhood. I got a nice chuckle, and wanted to share this with all of you, too!  

1) Mothers spend the first 2 years of their children's lives teaching them to walk and talk, and the next 16 telling them to sit down and be quiet.

2) Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your own children.

3) Mother's of teens now know why some animals eat their young.

4) Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they repeat word for word what you should NOT have said.

5) The main purpose of holding children's birthday parties is to remind yourself that there are children more awful than your own. 

6) We child proof our homes, but they're still getting in.

Hope those made you smile and laugh! 

But seriously, motherhood is hard, its a never ending, 24/7 job that is the most brutal and the best job in the world, all at the same time. Don't you agree?

But never forget, that in the eyes of your children, even through mistakes, errors, and not always being exactly the kind of mom we want to be in every situation, we're still Super Mom in the eyes of our kids. That's pretty powerful!!!

I'm feeling blessed and lucky this weekend to be spoiled by my family and am soaking up precious moments with the kids, as well as enjoying some much needed time to myself. I hope you all are getting just what you want for Mother's Day!
