Unleash the Inner Beast

How would I describe this sweet boy of mine when it comes to soccer?

Well, I would describe him as dedicated, determined, never giving up, pushing hard against all odds (all the time), owning the field, dynamic, assertive, and living out his passion on the field.

This weekend marked opening day of games for my little stud --- first game of the season, playing with a new team, playing the best team in the league, and as a result, his nerves just GOT to him.

And because he let it get to him, he got schooled on the field. I actually didn't even "see" my son on the field until the last 5 minutes of the game. Those last 5 minutes are when he actually SHOWED UP in the capacity like I am used to seeing him. For most of the game, if I didn't know it was my own son, I wouldn't have recognized him on the field by the way he was played. It was a far cry from his usual, hard pushing, determined self who normally leads the team and has them looking to him.

Seeing him play as "not his normal self" got me thinking. I KNOW the nerves got to him on that first big game. And when I thought about what was missing, it came to me. BEAST MODE. Normally, when he is on the field, he enters what we like to call "Beast Mode." He's focused and fast, with his heart, mind, and soul, on that ball and getting it into the goal no matter what.

There's a lot to be said for letting your inner beast out! Each of us is born with a beast inside of us. This beast is a person who will try anything, and is not afraid of failure. It's a person who will try and fail and try again. 

The problem arises when we let fear take control of us. Fear starts asking questions like "What if I fail? What if I look foolish?" And fear starts telling us that we can't do it, don't have the right skills, aren't good enough, or aren't fast enough. Basically, fear cages that inner beast. And that's when you really DON'T have anything to contribute. The beast is caged and the fear has held you back. 

The beast side of all of us is the goal minded side that wants so badly to be successful. The beast so badly wants to make things happen -- and that's why it'll do anything trying, and never give up until it happens! 

We were talking with our son after the game about how when he plays, people want to watch. Seeing him play his heart out and shine is pretty darn amazing. When he unleashes his inner beast, he's fulfilling his potential, and in the process, learning that he can push himself to achieve success. Its so fun to watch him share his passion with the world --- NOT letting fear hold him back.

So, what do you do when your beast has been caged and you're just "off" of your normal game? Well, you refocus, set goals, and push past the fear of failure. Basically, you make an agreement with yourself to let your inner beast OUT! 

I'm super excited to watch this kid in his next game - we've had a talk, and I KNOW he's ready to refocus, put his mind in the right place, and finally, reenter BEAST MODE -- the place where he is happiest on the field -- I see the joy and happiness in his eyes and in his face when he lets that fear go and is working to his full potential. 

As a parent, I hope to always set the example to live fearlessly. I hope to teach my kids to live in their truest, most authentic form, and when fears faces us head on, we just UNLOCK that cage, and let that inner beast OUT, letting that awesomeness shine for the whole world to see!

Well this is fun!

The brand new, country music based, dance fitness program, Country Heat is here, and I finally had the opportunity to give it a try.  I'm not going to lie --- I thought to myself, "I'm not a dancer, its not for me, I'm not a huge country fan, I'm not going to sweat...."  BOY, I was so wrong! And I LOVE this amazing tribe of like minded, supportive, kick A@$! women that have come to be such an important part of my life.

So, I'm home and still reeling from such an amazing weekend. I'm taking a little time to reflect, get my thoughts together, take away some amazing knowledge, bask in the memories and friendships strengthened and created, and give thanks for such amazing people that have been brought into my life.

As some of you know and may have seen on Instagram and Facebook (if you aren't already, be sure to follow me there - just click social media links below!), I just returned from an action packed weekend in Nashville, where I attended the annual Team Beachbody conference. Can you believe that over 25,000 people were in attendance!?
It was such an amazing time, an unbelievable experience, and truly, its hard to put the entire weekend into words.

One of my personal favorites? The live workouts with some of my very favorite Super Trainers like Shaun T, Tony Horton, and Autumn Calabrese. Not only did I get to workout with ALL of the Beachbody Super Trainers, I even had the opportunity to attend an exclusive workout with my favorite trainer, Shaun T, where I actually got to learn some pretty sick dance moves and "dab" with the man himself!

And check out the photo below -- this is what it looks like to work out with 25,000 people! There is NOTHING like the energy you take on from this many people and this kind of excitement. We shut down Broadway in Nashville and got our butts kicked by ALL of the amazing Super Trainers. The energy and excitement is contagious!!! Oh, and the sweat was flying!

And how fun to connect with friends, old and new. You know how there are just those people in your life that you pick right back up where you left off, no matter how long its been? This is one of those people. I love that she is as passionate about fitness and health as I am and that we had the opportunity to workout in the streets of Nashville together. I do believe we crushed that workout! And, if not for being brought back together through Beachbody coaching, I don't know that we'd ever have the opportunity to reconnect. Glad thats no longer an issue -- Beachbody has allowed me to reconnect with friends from all walks of my life!

Honestly, the whole experience is mind blowing and life changing. Relationships, opportunities, lessons learned, motivation, inspiration, and so much more!
Sometimes I wonder how the heck have I been so lucky to find this in my life. Well, I can only think that God led me this way and led me this way for a reason.
I absolutely love being fulfilled by what I'm doing for myself and for others, love that I work for a company that is dedicated to changing the lives of its coaches who in turn change the lives of others. Love that this has allowed me to find something for me, and to be able to share it with other moms who need and want the same things out of life! Its SPREADING, you all!!!! And I think its coming your way! 

Now that I'm home, I'm taking some time to just sit and reflect. Wow! The "family" that has been created and grown through the years is pretty amazing! Nothing like finding a whole other "family" that you never knew you had and never knew you needed!
This past weekend has given me a full heart, a clear direction, fresh momentum, new purpose, new ideas, a positive attitude, new friendships, and honestly, my heart is full. Never ever did I dream that this could be all of that and more!!!

And as I left Nashville, one last surprise was in store. 
Imagine my surprise and delight when the creator of Shakeology showed up for my flight! Having a chance to meet and chat with him was a perfect way to end an amazing weekend.

Sometimes, a girl just has to have a treat. I mean, life wouldn't be RIGHT without a sweet treat sometimes. Life wouldn't be LIVING if we never treated ourselves!

Yes, as you might be able to tell, I have a sweet tooth. A MAJOR sweet tooth. Sadly enough, I think about sweets quite often! Luckily, my shakes ward off the sweet tooth crazy well, but there are just THOSE days. You know what I'm talking about. Those days where you just CAN'T handle it anymore and you cave. 

And you know what? Life is about balance. So sometimes, its perfect eating and kick butt workouts, and sometimes its pizza and cupcakes and being a sloth. Am I right? 

Then there are those days where you think you really can make it if you can just make a healthy treat work! And luckily, there are TONS of healthy, totally satisfying treats out there that do the trick. They nip that sweet tooth in the bud and don't take you careening off course from your health and fitness goals.

I love that there are so many 21 Day Fix approved sweet treats that are absolutely on track and absolutely delicious. Check out some of my favorites.

My favorite Corn Salad for family cookouts and BBQ's with friends.

Memorial Day weekend is upon us. Besides remembering to give and live the gratitude I feel for all of those who have paid the ultimate price for us, its also about celebrating it. 

I don't know about you, but when I think Memorial Day, I think cookout. When I think cookout, I think overeating. When I think overeating, I think about all of the not so healthy foods I'd like to stuff in my face. ;) But, ultimately, that makes me feel rotten, and I know better, from experience, that over indulging in the foods I think I want leads to me actually feeling kind of lousy. I mean, my stomach ends up hurting!!!! And then I wonder why I used to eat that way at all. 

So I have learned the hard way that cookouts with family and parties with friends don't have to mean an automatic stomachache. There are a ton of cookout friendly, healthy foods that are absolutely delicious, will keep me on track, and I won't wind up with a stomach ache. 

You're in for a treat because this recipe is one of my all-time, go-to favorite cookout dishes. I mean, you can't go wrong when fresh roasted corn is in the mix. And you really can't go wrong when avocado is thrown in there, too. Its simple and delicious, good for you, won't throw you off track, and will leave your stomach thanking you.
