Phew. The holidays were absolutely amazing, but I'm coming out of it SO far off of my goals. I'm feeling relieved that its time to get back on track. To be completely honest, I have not had so many days of bad nutrition in years. Yes, YEARS. With our snowboarding vacation (lots of eating out), followed immediately by Christmas (hello, monkey bread and sugar cookies), followed by a trip to my grandparents' farm (can you say Grandma's homemade cinnamon rolls??), and then topped off with my son's birthday (WAY too much cake!), and I am feeling bloated, yucky, headachy, and my abs have totally become flabs. That is 100% NOT where I intended to be at the end of all of it.
I got to thinking, I bet some of you are in the same boat as me. You had great intentions, but the holidays got you, as they tend to do. And now, you're probably feeling a lot like I am --- wishing you hadn't overdone it, wishing you weren't so far off of your goals, and ready to take 2016 by storm with a brand new, fresh start. Yes, that sounds about right!
So, I think its time to do it. You might be wondering --- but what is the trick?? HOW do I do it? Well, there is no trick, but I do know that there is a SIMPLE way to do it. Here are a few tips for getting started right in the new year.
- Start small. Have you ever started a new year with huge, lofty goals? I think that's awesome, but what's NOT awesome is setting our sights SO huge that we set ourselves up for failure. I think that setting small goals, and doing a little bit at a time, step by step, helps us ultimately succeed. Each time we hit our small goals, that is a success! Keep going and we'll have success after success, leading us ultimately to our big goals. Plus, this leaves us confident and excited that we are, in fact, seeing progress. If our sights are only set on the huge goals and we aren't getting there, that can leave us frustrated, tired of working so hard, feeling like we're failing -- which ultimately can lead to giving up on those goals! Start small!!!!
- Be realistic. Have clear goals. Set goals that are attainable and exciting to you. Reassess as you move forward. Starting a new fitness routine is a process and you'll learn as you go. Each time you move forward, take a moment and assess and gain clarity as to where and how you are moving towards your goals. Make changes as needed and always remember to set realistic and attainable goals for yourself!
- Make it fun. Hard work + no fun = failure. Do something you enjoy or find a way to make it fun! If its not fun to you, its highly likely that it won't stick long-term. If you are enjoying your workout program, the support you are receiving, the results that are being seen and the women you are working alongside, then it becomes fun -- it becomes WORTH IT. And if its fun and worth it, you are setting yourself up for success.
- Celebrate. Each milestone you reach ---- celebrate it!!! Never forget to be proud of YOU, the changes you've made, and the goals your are accomplishing. NEVER forget to be proud of yourself!
So, how exactly, are we making this simple in the new year? Well, I think its time to get RAW. Realistic.Attainable.Worth it. Let's make 2016 OUR year --- our best year yet! In my January group, we're focusing on realistic goals that are attainable. And every ounce of effort we put into it is going to be absolutely worth it. I do believe that HUGE goals can set us back. We're going to start small with clear, realistic goals. We're going to hit our goals together and keep moving forward --- together. We're going to celebrate each other and our successes. We're going to make sure that each one of us sticks with it, and sees her goals come to fruition. With super simple nutrition, short, effective workouts, and the support from one another, we can do ANYTHING we set our minds to. What do you think? Are you ready to get RAW in 2016? Why NOT? Let's do this! I'm ready to reach our goals together.
